  2.  The Checkbook Accountant Main Screen is where all
  3.  functions available to checkbooks and budget lists are
  4.  selected.
  5.  
  6.  The major portion of this Main Screen is occupied by the
  7.  transaction list, a scrollable list of the currently
  8.  viewable transactions (See View under the Preferences
  9.  Menu for more information).  Transactions entered into
  10.  the checkbook are shown here.  Any viewable transaction
  11.  can be edited by double-clicking its entry in the
  12.  transaction list.

  14.  The lower-right of the screen displays the three types of
  15.  balances:
  16.     RUNNING BALANCE,
  17.     CHECKBOOK BALANCE, and
  18.     STATEMENT BALANCE.
  19.  The running balance is the checkbook balance as a result
  20.  of each transaction.  The checkbook balance is the
  21.  result of all the checkbook's transactions, or equally,
  22.  the running balance after the last-entered transaction.
  23.  The statement balance is the result of all the cleared
  24.  transactions, calculated though the Reconcile function.
  25.  As a visual aid, negative balances are shown in RED and
  26.  positive balances in BLACK.

  28.  The lower-center of the screen displays a column of
  29.  gadgets, mimicking the functions available from the
  30.  Project Menu.  This is here for convenience only.

  32.  The lower-right of the screen is currently unused by the
  33.  program.

  35.  The upper-right of the screen is used by the Show
  36.  indicators (under the Preferences Menu).

  40.  The following lists, by menu, the operations possible
  41.  from the Main Screen along with their keyboard
  42.  equivalents.  Some of the functions, mainly from the
  43.  Project Menu, have equivalent gadgets, selected with
  44.  the mouse.  If you forget the keyboard equivalents, each
  45.  gadget (except one) has a black underscored letter which
  46.  is the key to press with the RIGHT-AMIGA key.  The one
  47.  exception is the About function.  You can select this
  48.  with the mouse by choosing the menu item, clicking on the
  49.  "Checkbook Accountant 0.9" box in the upper-left corner
  50.  of the display, or pressing the keyboard equivalent
  51.  RIGHT-AMIGA ?.

  63.        If a checkbook is current being worked on, the user
  64.        will be prompted to save any changes made to it
  65.        before starting a new checkbook.  If no changes
  66.        were made to the checkbook, the program will
  67.        immediately ask for the new checkbook's
  68.        information.  A default budget list can be loaded
  69.        at the same time by selecting the Default Budgets
  70.        gadget (For more information, consult the Budget
  71.        Help Screen).

  75.        Retrieves from disk an existing checkbook as the
  76.        current checkbook.  If a checkbook is currently
  77.        being worked on, the user will be prompted to save

  80.        checkbook, the new checkbook is loaded immediately.

  237. A FEW NOTES ABOUT NAVIGATING THROUGH CHECKBOOK ACCOUNTANT:
  238.  
  239.  Checkbook Accountant was designed to be as useful from
  240.  either the keyboard or the mouse.  Almost all operations
  241.  can be performed from either device.  For example, you
  242.  can move through any of the scrolling lists (transaction,
  243.  budget, help screens) by either dragging the slider
  244.  gadget or using the cursor keys (along with the SHIFT or
  245.  ALT keys or by itself).  As explained above, almost all
  246.  gadgets have corresponding menu selections and keyboard
  247.  shortcuts.  The letter to press with the RIGHT-AMIGA key
  248.  is designated by either checking its appearance in the
  249.  menu bar or, easier, by looking for an underscored letter
  250.  in or next to the gadget, which are both the same.
  251.  
  252.  The only occurrences where menus do not accompany gadgets
  253.  is during the cases when the program has to verify an
  254.  action (OKAY or CANCEL response) or give you a message
  255.  (OKAY response).  These gadgets have the same underscored
  256.  letters as their menu-attached counterparts, but they
  257.  are selected from the keyboard by just pressing that key.
  258.  They do not need the RIGHT-AMIGA key pressed at the same
  259.  time, although doing so will not affect it (it is simply
  260.  ignored).

  262.  Also, if you try to press the HELP key when the cursor is
  263.  in any string gadget, you will not get the requested help
  264.  screen.  Programming the ability to check if the user
  265.  pressed the HELP key in this case would be too much extra
  266.  work without real gain in functionality.  So, if you need
  267.  HELP for a requester, and you are not being asked a
  268.  question or being notified by the program, be sure to
  269.  click in the window anywhere other than in a string
  270.  gadget and then press the HELP key.
